Part-Time Therapist and Group Facilitator


Wellness Retreat Recovery Center is a 6-bed luxury drug and alcohol treatment center in Silicon Valley focused on personalized treatment in a luxury setting. The company founders have two main goals- one, to provide ethical, stakeholder-oriented, best-practice residential treatment in the most luxurious setting available in Northern California, and two, to provide a healthy environment for our employees to flourish in. We understand that our clients’ treatment experience is a direct result of our employees’ satisfaction and the health of our organization.

We are looking for professionals who are passionate about helping the chemically dependent population we serve. This is an awesome opportunity for the right person to create, define, and refine their role with us as our company expands.

Wellness Retreat Recovery Center’s Therapist must provide at least one hour of individual therapy to each client within every seven days of the client’s treatment stay at WRRC and will chart progress notes for each therapeutic interaction. This individual will also conduct family group therapy and individual family therapy sessions.

Job Specifics:

  • This role is classified as an Independent Contractor position and is part-time (20 hours a week)
  • Must be available to work on Saturdays from 10 am until approx. 7 pm;
  • Must be available to work on Sundays from 1 pm until 5 pm;
  • Must plan for and facilitate 1 CBT and 1 DBT group per week (may conduct one on Tuesday and one on Thursday (both from 10:30 am-12 pm) or conduct both groups in a single day, either Tuesday or Thursday (from 10:30 am-12 pm and from 2 pm-3 pm);
  • Must attend Wednesday morning staff meetings either in person or by calling-in (10:30 until about 12);
  • Must have state licensure as a therapist and be in good standing.

Essential Qualifications:

  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience working in a substance abuse program (relevant experience may be substitutable on a case-by-case basis);
  • Leadership and administrative experience and capabilities;
  • California driver’s license required;
  • Must possess knowledge of chemical dependency, substance abuse and personality dynamics of the substance abuser;
  • Must have and actively maintain CPR and First Aid Certification and submit to a TB test upon hire;
  • Must possess a license from the State of California Mental Health Professions Licensing Board that allows for the independent practice of Clinical Services. Provisional licenses are acceptable for up to three (3) years as long as the provisional license is current. Must maintain a professional license and stay current (not revoked, suspended, or lapsed in registration), valid and unrestricted;
  • This position requires an MFT, LCSW, PsyD, or PhD
  • Must have a working knowledge of CBT and DBT and the ability to explain/teach the concepts of both;
  • Must be willing to learn and ask questions, accept feedback and be accountable;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Ability to manage priorities and workflow;
  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively communicate with people at all levels and from various backgrounds.

  • Provide clinical team leadership;
  • Weekly individual therapy for each client;
  • Weekly private family therapy sessions with each participating family and the client (occasionally clients require private family therapy with loved ones separately and require more than one private family therapy session per week- ex., the client has a private session with their spouse and another with their mother);
  • Plan for and facilitate weekly Family Educational Group (Saturdays 10:30 am-12 pm)
  • Plan for and facilitate 1 CBT and 1 DBT group per week (may conduct one on Tuesday and one on Thursday (both from 10:30 am-12 pm) or conduct both groups in a single day, either Tuesday or Thursday (from 10:30 am-12 pm and from 2 pm-3 pm);
  • Attend Wednesday morning staff meetings either in person or by calling-in (10:30 until about 12)
  • Coordinate with external groups and agencies in promoting inter-organizational collaboration and facilitating placement of program graduates after program completion;
  • Ensure that all shift duties are completed in a timely manner and in accordance with policies and procedures;
  • Provide crisis services and consultation as deemed appropriate;
  • Serve as an on-call contact person for WRRC staff when they require after-hours clinical support
  • Works with Wellness Retreat Recovery Center’s cooperative treatment team personnel in client evaluation and treatment to enhance provided services and treatment planning;
  • Helps to ensure that each client receives appropriate treatment, which is consistent with accepted standards of practice and the needs of individual clients;
  • Complete necessary documentation;
  • Consult with clinical, medical, administrative team, etc., concerning clinical issues as necessary;
  • Formulate appropriate service plans in conjunction with the multidisciplinary treatment team; include client and, where applicable, family participation;
  • Provide in-service training as required;
  • Provide individual and group counseling/therapy, as required;
  • Maintain strict confidentiality guidelines regarding all clients, conversations, and referrals;
  • Conduct all tasks with regard to any and all relevant legislation, policies, and procedures;
  • Participate in continuing education to continually improve skills and abilities and stays abreast of current technologies/practices;
  • Identify opportunities for program improvement and quality improvement;
  • Attend staff meetings, supervisory conferences, and other activities, which ensure the smooth functioning of clinical operations;
  • Ensure clinical team uses best-practice interventions and strategies;
  • Other duties as determined by the CEO or COO.
